After graduating with a master's degree in art therapy, Elyse registered as a professional art therapist with ANZACATA. Over the years, she has worked in various institutions, day care centers, and several primary schools in Singapore. Her client population is diverse such as individuals with mental health issues, special needs, stress, anxiety, intellectual disabilities, dementia, or sense of loss. The age range is from children to older adults. Additionally, Elyse completed the art-based supervision course with ANZACATA and became a qualified supervisor, taking on a supervisory role for art therapy interns.
Art therapy can be widely applied to enhance understanding of mental health. Participants do not need any prior knowledge or experience in art, as the art therapist facilitate clients to explore and reflect through creative processes safely. This helps enhance self-awareness and understanding of oneself, alleviating emotional stress and exploring more possibilities in life.
In recent years, she has worked in Hong Kong and Singapore. Facing different cultures and challenges, she has encountered various personal and professional obstacles, experiencing a range of emotions due to unexpected events, and deeply understanding the ups and downs of life. If, at this stage, one could have a mental health professional who understands their needs and provides professional help, it would alleviate stress of uncertainty, broaden perspectives, and may help navigate the future. Therefore, she hopes that through art therapy, clients can share, reflect, and process their emotions safely during the therapeutic process, supporting them during challenging times.
Elyse speaks fluent Cantonese, English and Mandarin as well as elementary Japanese and Spanish.
